Dry Body Brushing Ritual

The skin is the largest organ of the body and one of its many roles is to help excrete toxins from the body through sweat. Another great way to detoxify the body is dry body brushing. This method assists by improving circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system.  Skin brushing also gently exfoliates the skin by removing a build up of dead skin cells.

Dry brushing is also great to assist with cellulite. Since my daughter was born, I’ve noticed more cellulite around my bottom, thighs and stomach, so I pay more attention to these particular areas or concern.

If new to this brushing ritual, start off three times a week and eventually build up to once a day, every day. I always like to dry brush before bathing.

Steps

From feet up, towards the heart and all over the body, except the face, apply swift gentle movements.

After a great brushing session my skin is pink and has a slight tingling sensation. Remember to go easy, and apply light pressure. If you press too hard it wont be beneficial and you’ll end up with red and irritated skin.  Lastly, be careful around sensitive areas!

Tip

Look for a brush that is made from plant bristles and do not share your brush with anyone. Store your brush in the sunlight and every so often tap the back of your brush to remove a build up of dead skin cells.

To clean, use a natural shampoo and leave in the sun to dry out. You can also add a few drops of purifying essential oils such as Eucalyptus and Lavender oil.
